Virgin Cocktails… Mocktails, Anyone?
Having teetotalers on your guest list is no excuse for skimping on style when planning your drink menu for a party. Add one or more of these classic mocktails to your list of party beverages, and dress up your most glamorous glassware (think edible-glitter or sugar rims) for soft drinks that are worthy of a black-tie evening.
The ingredients for the drink created for the beloved child star is a topic for debate, so we took a few liberties with a ginger ale-based version.
Pour one ounce of grenadine syrup into a glass and stir in ½ ounce each of lemon and lime juice. Fill glass with ice cubes and top with five ounces of top-quality ginger ale, stirring gently to mingle. Drop a maraschino cherry (or two… or three…) into the mix and serve.
Though most associate the Bloody Mary with Queen Mary I of England, the Virgin Mary is rumored to be an ode to actress Mary Pickford.
Stir six parts spicy tomato juice with one part lemon juice, one part Worcestershire sauce, one pinch celery salt, one pinch freshly ground black pepper, and one teaspoon horseradish. Pour over ice and garnish with lemon and celery stick before serving.
The ubiquitous cowboy lent his name to a more macho version of a Shirley Temple.
Pour six-to-eight ounces of cola into an ice-filled glass and spike with a quarter ounce of grenadine syrup. Top with a maraschino cherry and serve.
